FLL  Warren Elementary Robotics Club

Our Robotrix team is made up of 15 members including third graders, fourth graders, and fifth graders.  We have two coaches that advise us and work with us.  We also have a few mentors from the middle school that help us from time to time.

Robotrix 2015

Being a member of this team is hard work, but also really fun.  We work on our robot and our project almost daily.  We must work as a team to do everything we do.  We focus on our core values and are open to each other's ideas and opinions.  No matter what happens in our season, we know we worked hard and had a lot of fun learning new things.

This year our team decided on a "iDoHomework app" as our project.  We had to find a solution to a problem dealing with technology and learning.  We decided our problem would be "How can we help children successfully do homework?" The app we "designed" would scan a homework page and help the child correct his or her mistakes.  The app would not give the answers to the incorrect problems, but instead give ideas on how to help the child learn the concept.  For example, if the homework assignment was on double digit multiplication and the child missed a few problems, the app would give examples on how to do that concept, so it helps the child understand how to do the problems he or she missed.  We researched that there are many ways children can learn: some need visuals, some need to hear how to do a concept, some need to see it being done, and so on.  We also know that parents cannot always help their child with homework because things are being taught so differently nowadays.  This will help parents learn with their children.

Core Values

Core Values are of utmost importance to the Warren Robotrix team.  Here are the values we follow in school and in everything we do:

  • We are a team.
  • We do the work to find solutions with guidance from coaches and mentors.
  • We know our coaches and mentors don't have all the answers; we learn together.
  • We honor the spirit of friendly competition.
  • What we discover is more important that what we win.
  • We share our experiences with others.
  • We display Gracious Professionalism and Cooperition™ in everything we do.
  • We have fun!

We practice our core values everyday. We show great teamwork by helping each other out at our practices.  When we worked on our poster everyone was doing some work for it.  have fun while we are singing and dancing at practice.

Mr. Boylan and Mrs. Johnsen do a great job at leading us without giving us the answers to problems.  They let us discover what is going on in our research, programming, etc.

When we brainstorm ideas everyone opinion is important.

We have worked really hard to build a robot that can carry out our missions.

Robot Design

Our robot's name is Jarvis.  Our chassis is a box design that is quite sturdy and does not fall apart.  We used various pieces to construct a stable chassis.  It provides plenty of spaces for us to attach our sensors.  We are using three sensors currently.  We have attached the gyro, color/light, and the ultrasonic sensor.  We have built our bot with four motors.  Three large motors and one medium motor.  Two large motors are used to drive the robot and the third large motor is being used to house attachment to complete our missions.

We have designed programs to complete many of the table missions.  From opening doors to engagement we have used many different coding blocks to make our missions successful.  While programming we have used our math skills to learn circumference of a circle and how to translate that into rotations of the motors.  Angles have played a big role as well because we use the gyro sensor often.
